Everyone has heard of high school sweethearts, but what about Middle School sweethearts? A love like that is rare and even more special. Kristen and Matt met in second grade…yes, you read that right, second grade! When Matt asked Kristin for some help putting on his mittens before recess a friendship bloomed, and as the years passed that friendship blossomed into more! In the sixth grade the two shared their “first date,” actually, it was a double date because they were accompanied by Matt’s parents to the movies and pizza hut. Then, in high school at a dance, they shared their first kiss as “‘I’m yours” by Jason Maraz played in the background. More years passed and the two formed an unbreakable bond, it was almost impossible to say one of their names without including the other. It may have already felt like Kristin and Matt were married, but on a trip to Toronto, while touring a castle, Matt whisked Kristin away to a balcony where he asked for her hand in marriage to make it official!
A wedding at a castle was only fitting for Kristen and Matt, so they decided to hold their wedding at the beautiful Belhurst Castle on Seneca lake. The day was as magical as you can imagine, and hot, it was very hot that day. But the breeze from the lake and the tears that were cried cooled off guests as Kristin and Matt shared their intimate vows with family and friends. These vows were so unique and special, as they reflected over the years that they’ve spent together growing up with a best friend and life partner. They spoke of how it was not one moment of realization that they had found the one, but over years of growth and constant reminders that throughout it all, they would only want each other by their side’s. Kristin even shared an entry from her childhood diary from the day that she and Matt decided to become “boyfriend and girlfriend,” it was so sweet to hear, for a few reasons. One, because it was so obviously written by a preteen girl with a crush, and two, because that excitement she felt as she wrote in that diary, felt just like the excitement she was experiencing thirteen years later as she promised vows to her soon to be husband. Kristin and Matt’s wedding was just an amazing reminder of how powerful love is, and how important friendship within love is.
From the joy we shared with Kristin, Matt, family, and friends in the morning, to the reception, jam-packed with even more emotion, great food and dancing, it was a wedding that gave us “all the feels!” Plus, we must admit, we are starting to feel a lot like family after shooting Kristin’s sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia and Patrick’s wedding a few years back, and to us, it was so special being invited back to celebrate and capture another incredible wedding from their sweet family!
Congratulations Kristin and Matt! Thank you guys for being champs through the heat during photos and for making us cry during your vows! Wishing you both more and more wonderful years together!
